Hi Tom,
Have you been to EveryBus, Buses of the Corn or BusFusion?
Each year since 2001 I've been heading down to Greensboro NC on the weekend
after Easter for EveryBus. Splitties, Bays both early and late. Vanagons.
Eurovans. Singlecabs. Dokas. Synchros. Adventurewagens, Safari's, high-tops
both original VW and aftermarket. Beetles with teardrop trailers. And there's
no snobbery, just a cool laid-back "Lets Camp" attitude; with a general
appreciation for all things "VW bus-ish". In 2005 there were over 170 buses
attending; while that's nowhere near BBB it's an impressive number considering
the relative scarcity of buses on the east coast.
I strive for the same goal at Buses Of The Corn, and though the attendance is
lower we seem to be attracting a very diverse crowd. In 2005 BOTC had a
full-spread of bus attendance, from a 1955 camper to a 2003 EV. And nary a
trailer queen in sight. I would estimate that about 40% of the attendance was
in Vanagons, with 20% in splitties and 30% in bays and 10% in Eurovans.
If you're looking for a "Vanagon-Centric" campout; then I strongly
recommend you
plan for BusFusion in April. Frank brings in a huge flock of Vanagons every
year; and they camp amongst the bays, EV's and aplitties with no problem. At
165 buses it's one of the largest public VW events in Canada.
The Quebec Westy Club holds some monster rallies (much bigger than BBB)
but you
need a factory westy and a good parlez of francais to get into their midst.
