I just installed Fat Mat in several areas of my Vanagon. While I haven't installed it under the carpet yet, that task is on my list. I don't see how water could get trapped under the Fat Mat. The self adhesive stuff is extremely strong. If the Fat Mat is properly installed it should tightly adhere to all contours in the sheet metal. I just don't see how water could seep under the material once it is installed. I am concerned about putting Fat Mat under the carpet since it is a solid barrier. For those who have applied a solid barrier under the carpet, did you leave it as "removable"? It seems trapped water would tend to stay trapped. Also, what did you use to stick down the carpet after the soundproofing was applied?
