Maybe I didn't do a very thorough search of the archives for this, but I couldn't find anything within the last few years on this- What have people paid for labor for head gasket replacement? How about for throwing in a set of rings? Last summer I had front and rear main seals replaced, and asked the mechanic about the advisability of doing the head gaskets at the same time, since he already had the engine out, and it was something that we normally expect to be troublesome. He had the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude, and advised against it. A few months later, I had major oil and coolant leaks (mostly coolant). His diagnosis? Head gaskets. He still stands by his previous advice. Then while he had it apart he said that the rings didn't come out right and I should replace them. I'm wondering what people have paid for this. I got the parts from Bus Depot and had them shipped to him. Thanks, Ed in CT |
