Wait, do any cars have fenders? Karl Wolz (at whose house I am staying here in sunny Phoenix) said fenders are things that keep the dirt off. I thought those were mud flaps. But on bicycles it's fenders that keep the dirt off - off your back, that is, not off the bike.

So what would a fender on a car be?

And what's it got to do with guitars?

The wheel arch, now that's what I'm going to get repaired at the pricey but reliable Phoenix body shop that Karl took me to!

It may be Geek to you, Ben, but it's Vanagon geek. I'm only a spelling geek (but in English and French, not Greek), not a Vanagon geek. Oh, yeah, and a data geek, I'm one of those too.

Joy,

Chris is just yanking your chain. He knows as well as most of us that you meant the side pieces of your rear bumper.

Fender is just a guitar. =) Vanagons don't have "fenders" in the automotive sense. The back area over the wheels is comonly called a rear quarter panel as it is not removable. Front quatrter panel fo rhte fornt is my guess. VW calls the area over the wheel as "wheel arches". That is the closest they have to a fender.

It's all Geek to me.
