Hi Shawn,

I'm a bit with you on the tone of Chris's email, I agree that it was a bit excessive.

But the bit about the rehashed discussions comes up on every list, it's not just VW folks. The newbies always ask questions that the old-timers have discussed 1000 times. Here it's tires or how to hook up auxiliary batteries - on my kayak lists it's mostly about cold water gear. In fact, it's ENDLESSLY about cold water gear. No one wants the newbies not to be here, and of course they're going to ask familiar questions - I did it, we all do it.

So some old-timers get impatient and, metaphorically speaking, roll their eyes in public. While lots of other old-timers welcome the new folks and maybe politely mention the archives, but also answer their questions.

So as a newbie, it's good to just ignore the ones who roll their eyes. More tolerance all around is a good thing, from oldies and newbies.

'Cause after all, we're all new at things sometime in life - or else we'd be very stale - and after a while hopefully we all also become old-timers.

Joy
