Hmm, I thought it's the younger folks who have kids!

Maybe this is just a question of perspective? :-)

In my experience, whether you are bored at Westy events depends on whether you like to meet new people and talk to them. Sometimes about VW stuff, sometimes about the rest of life. If your life only includes VW stuff, you may be more bored than if your life includes a range of things.

All the events I've been to have had a mix of people of many ages and places in life, from infants, to children careening through everything on bikes without looking where they are going, to (usually bored) teen-agers, to the parents of the heedless kids and the bored teen-agers, to the (usually older) single folks and childless couples.
