Thanks to everyone for the tips on this. One final question, concerns the voltage stabilizer behind the instrument panel. Is there a way of checking this out? That is to say, if operating correctly, should it be delivering a set voltage of a specific amount? If so, what? Ray ==============

Yes it does... its on the back of the dash, and the list vendors have them for pretty cheap. I think that when they go bad, there are usually symptoms in both the temperature and fuel gauges.
