Yes, shield it or run it where there is little or no interference. I recently put my oscilloscope on the O2 lead of one of my Vanagons when getting it ready for a smog test. For fun I pulled the unshielded part up near the ignition coil but it made no difference. It did put a little more noise on top of the signal but did not change the response of the ECU to the sensor reading as far as I could tell. I have seen lots of Vanagons with the unshielded sensor wire zip tied up nearer to the coil than I would have thought wise but it seems to not be a problem.
