I don't get what these vehicles are for. I see 3 or 4 out on the highways every year, mostly germans on extended trips. Converted 5 ton unimogs which have a top speed of 55 mph and gas mileage in the single digits. They have lots of space and are comfortable, but so is a Winnebago. Off road capabilities? Sure, I guess. But 'off-road' places I have been sometimes involved narrow roads, steep climbs, fragile soft terrain. Getting stuck in a big heavy truck like that would be an ordeal, to say the least. Give me a syncro westy - nimble, light, easy to drive and a fairly capable off road for a vehicle that sleeps 4.

Maybe I don't understand what those big trucks are about, what am I missing? I mean, what kind of travelling are these designed for? I do understand the desire to go places which are remote and difficult, but it's not that important to me to have cappuccino and satellite TV when I get there.

Cool, different, attention getting? Yes, no doubt about that.
