This is what I did. Scared the living daylights out of me when I did it, though. (I practiced first on a hole in a lawn mower blade to see how it'd work.) After using the tap, I poured MMO through to get the remaining metal shavings out. This has held wonderfully well - but be careful not to go too far (I almost did - the pipe plug is up there pretty far and it isn't leaking like the over single oversized plug I had with two washers to keep the oversized plug head far enough out of the recess).
