I've been following this thread and I think you are chasing the wrong
horse.
For troubleshooting, leave the throttle switch disconnected. The only
thing you will be missing is the injector shut off during deceleration
and full throttle enrichment. Find what is wrong. With the switch
disconnected, the engine will run normal and you should not even know it
is missing unless you drive down a lot of steep hills or have exhaust
leaks that cause back firing during deceleration since the injectors are
not being turned off when the engine is over run with the throttle
closed. Any bucking, stumbling, etc is not a throttle switch problem
with it disconnected unless you have a short in the wiring.
The later throttle switch if properly installed is full adjustable with
the throttle body in place. There are two Allen screws the use a 3mm
wrench. One is the clamp and the other turns a cam which moves the
switch to make the adjustment.
The early throttle body and switch will work. However, the throttle bore
is smaller which will reduce the 2.1L output.
Oh wait! You have an '85. Is there any chance you swapped the wiring
from the throttle body switch and the auxiliary air regulator? Check for
12 or 5 volts at the connectors. 5 volts goes to the switch. 12 volts
goes to the regulator. If you did swap, the new switch is fried and/or
the 12 wiring is messed up since there is no fuse protection. When these
wires are switched, the heater in the auxiliary regulator will trick the
ECU into thinking the switch is always closed which will cause bucking
and jumping at low speeds.

Well ,here is the new plan. I just got a throttle body from an 83.5,or
84.
It has 2 throttle switches and is low mileage(82K).My 85 has 1
combination
switch, currently,to do the switching chores.. However, both throttle
bodys
have wiring harnesses from the ECU that contain only 2 wires. The
throttle
body that has the 2 switches ,has the harness branch off into 2 extra
wire
ends. The Bentley shows this to look the same in each schematic(84 and
85).
I can splice this into the current wiring and solve the problem, right?
The
reasons I am doing this is costs($25- once again, still more than I
wanted
to spend).I can adjust this ez, where as the late switch may need the TB
removed to adjust.I can get replacement switches from other junked VW
cars
to fit this TB. The wiring from the future replacement switchs will need
push on plugs added(no problem),if I cannot find a doner vanagon made
from
83.5 to early 85(shouldnt be hard to find). The early WBX throttle body
has
no adjustment screw on the throttle stop. Only an adjustment screw for
the
decell switch.Anybody know if this TB swap will cause a problem in the
preformance of the engine?Cant see why It should, but then again,
shouldnt
have to do this anyway.Thanks
