Hi all Well i took apart 3 vanagon motors 2-1.9L and 1-2.1L. One of the 1.9L had a miss match of lifters. meaning different oil ring areas. same height and width as others. 1 motor had about 12k on it and spun a rod bearing. 1 had head leak and overcharging lifter problem and misc stupid stuff. The 2.1L was just given to me by a friend that didnt know much about it.

So Here is the Question. now that all the motors are fully taken apart in seperate 5 gallon buckets ive started to inspect and keep or dump what is in question. im on the lifters now. i know with the type 1 solid lifters you can put them face to face and make sure they are not dished or scored. but the Hydraulic lifters im sorta out of what makes them good or bad. Is there a way to check them visually and or manually?? I will install them and run them and if they dont perform pull them and swap them out if need be but i would like to not take that route if at all possible.

thanks for your infinite wisdow. or just a dumb luck guess. Jonce
