Yes, that stuff happens. It falls under the heading: "a false reading of a drop in the main tank"

This can also be from a bad tank level sensor, bad connection at the sensor, bad connection in the engine compartment wiring box, bad coolant level warning unit....

Given the several areas that can cause the blinking the first step is to eliminate as many causes as possible before replacing parts.
