Subject: Ballpark price for a 1990 Vanagon GL with newish Tiico engine?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Hello all,

After recently purchasing a 1996 Jetta I have decided to sell my 1990 Vanagon GL. It has a Tiico engine which I had installed several years ago (~30,000 miles). The engine now has all of the kinks worked out (which was admittedly a long, expensive, and drawn-out process), and it has the A2 fuel rail upgrade. Other recent repairs include a new starter, new rear brakes, new exhaust system from the manifold on out (the kit from Ken at VanAgain), and newish Goodrich tires (~15,000 miles). The only problems that I'm aware of are several small dents and scratches, a missing middle seat, and a broken driver's side mirror (big cracks but it's still usable). It's not that pretty, especially compared to some of the photos of Vanagons of this list's members, but it's solid and my mechanic tells me I could expect for it to run for another 100,000 miles without major trouble from the Tiico engine. It can run 90 MPH on a flat highway, and has no problem at all negotiating the steep mountain roads where I live (Boulder, Colorado).

Can someone surmise a ballpark price that I could reasonably ask for this Vanagon? I'm not in a big hurry to sell it, but I don't plan to hold out for a premium price either. I'm looking for a good home for my old friend I guess. ;)

Thanks in advance for any feedback (I'm really just interested in opinions on a reasonable price range). If you or anyone you know would like to test drive it then please contact me at my email address and we can set it up ASAP. I will post to the appropriate group (is there a separate group for FS messages?) as soon as I have some good photos and a more accurate description (exact numbers for the miles on the engine and tires).

--James
