I think Flagstaff would be ideal for a meet in this corner of the country- the Canyon is right there (among other things), it's not too far from Vegas / Laughlin if you wanted to go (among other places)- maybe 10 hours from LA. I've actually used a couple of the campgrounds to the south (which were pretty good) and it's generally pleasant weather in the summer... Doesn't help with the 'central location discussion' but it is what it is.
