We use it hanging at the back of the seat, though it's pretty clear it wass intended to be hung on the front. In fact, there's a companion product which is intended to go on the back, but which doesn't have enough pockets for my tastes. The only time it matters is when I swivel the seat. Then I need to be a bit careful that the bag doesn't get caught up in the seatbelt on the way 'round.
