My wife and I had our first date in my first '85 GL; we went to the drive-in, parked sideways, and sat on a blanket where the middle seat should have been and drank cheap wine and ate Burger King. (I was broke.)

Two days later, I was transporting seven people up to Red Rocks for a Widespread Panic show; my future wife worked on the road leading up to the amphitheater checking tickets. I pulled up to her spot, she walked up to the driver's side window, I pulled up a little further, and she said:

"You're on my foot. Please pull forward!"

In a panicy state, I went backwards, rolling over her foot for a second time. She winced in pain but didn't appear too angry as she hobbled back to her post. Thank goodness she's flat-footed...

Thus began the love-hate relationship my wife has with my VW Vanagons. I honestly think that Bessie, my first Vanagon, felt threatened by this new girl and ran over her foot on her own.
