yes it will fit.. but it will probably have the square hole for the a/c controls on it next to the climate control lever hole.. so basically you'll have a big extra square hole in there that all the late model vanagons had. the dashes without the a/c switch holes that are the same as a '85 are the ones from 85-88 if its a passenger van, and 85-86 if its a camper. also 84 wolfsburg edition dashes are the same as '85's, but only if its a wolfsburg edition. the earlier '80-'84 dashes are the same too, but they wont have the holes for the 85-91 dash pad, and if its from a '80-'84 westy, it will have an extra hole for the notorious "SILVER SOCKET"..
