Subject: Re: FRIDAY: Aquired Treasures

Many years ago, I went to Mexico numerous times.

One time I was staying in Cancun and rented a VW beetle "convertible" (actually a sedan with the roof cut off, support bars welded into place) for a day trip to Tulum, Xel-ha, etc...

I made the major mistake of driving back to the hotel after dark. About 30 miles from the hotel, the Mexican Federal Police had a roadblock/checkpoint. About 20 dudes in camoflage uniforms all carrying machine guns.

They were stopping every car and searching. I really didnt think much of it at the time, as I had nothing illicit.....at least thats what I thought.

After a few minutes of them searching my bag and under the hood, pandemonium broke out at the Chrysler minivan in front of me. The occupants of that car were all forced to the ground, spead eagle, and lots of rapid fire spanish being spoken. Evidently they had found some sort of contraband in the van.

I was told I could leave.

Upon arrival at the hotel, I noticed my bag had spilled into the back seat. When reaching between the cushions to get some change back I found a baggie....You guessed it.....SMOKE.....and fresh too.

I guess I was about that close to going to jail, etc......In Mexico of all places.....

In the future, I have always checked rental cars, new found vehicles, etc...in all the nooks and crannies.....

Chuck
