Loren, Your 1990 Van rear-speakers do have separate grounds if, they are still original. Perhaps the previous installer twisted the grounds together (somewhere?) to match the common rear grounding of the old head-unit. Now to locate where that connection is hiding?

The wires for the rear speakers can be located behind the Glove-Box where the radio speaker loom splits between the Pass-door-speaker and the 2 rear-speakers (6 wires into 4 & 2). The color code in your Bentley will give you some help here.
