The typical way to lubricate a speedo is to get some powdered graphite in a tube, disconnect the speedometer cable and squirt a bit inside the hole where the cable connects and a little on the end of the cable. I wouldn't use the graphite/oil combo lubricants...just powdered graphite...a little goes a long way, no fluid to create other problems. Reconnect and drive a bit...if it needs a bit more, try it again. I've never found it necessary to disassemble to do this. While the sound is annoying I don't think there is a risk of heat or fire.
