Beetle caps won't fit, all right, but not because of a diameter problem. They are not DEEP enough for Vanagon use, especially at that pesky speedo drive nubbin on the front left...

Well, here is what I did trying to get more miles out of them. I sanded one up real good, and sprayed it with primer and steel wheel paint. I put one on the front and drove for about 10 months.Wanted to see if the paint would hold up from stones and wheel removel. And whether or not, I even liked it. Holds up just fine. No chips. The wheels themselves are painted silver steel wheel paint. They are the same color as the hubcap. At quick glance they look like the full silver wheelcover (plastic) that so many vanagons came with. It took a few weeks for the paint to harden up and get strong.Actually , I may like it better than chrome now that I am used to it.Chrome caps can be had from a baywindow van. That chrome will hold up,so dont paint them The caps from a beetle wont fit. They are just a smidgen too small in diameter.
