Hello- I was in a junkyard yesterday and am baffled by the Vanagon I saw there. First, it is a Westfalia and it is a peach color. It had a beige /tan interior. Then I looked at the engine- a 2.1 WBX. I looked at the door jamb and it it had a sticker that read Non-Catalyst, 1981 manufacture year. Hmmm, that made me think this was formerly a Diesel. I looked in the cab- sure enough, a Diesel floor duct between the seats. I looked in the engine compartment- there is no Diesel battery tray, and there is a factory air cleaner mount. There is no evidence that the tray was removed. Then I got in front of the van- rectanglular headlights. Big VW emblem grille. It also has power steering, and 84-later style cast front lower control arms. This is a 1981?? Do you know what this is? I have the VIN if that will help.
