It sounds like I'm having the same problem as Roger Sisler.....only this happens mainly when the weather is really cold, it's almost like the engine gets flooded with gas, and needs a full light change at the intersection before it wants to start up again. I'm thinking the idle may be too low, so that when it's cold the engine doesn't get fully heated up, and when stopping it dips, and can't maintain itself.
Note - this only happens at intersections going uphill........if that makes sense to anyone?
I'm thinking I should up the idle a teensy bit while we have this cold snap. Am I right to try this?

I have had the same problem off-and-on with my '84 1.9L. They have occurred
with two different engines and the only common parts being the wiring
harnesses, ECU, coil, and throttle body.
Problem generally occurs when air temperature is not cold enough to cause
fast idle to kick-in. I will drive three short blocks and then sometimes
have a very long wait (over a minute or more) at a stop sign for traffic to
clear. The idle speed will slowly drop off, the idle stabilizer will try to
keep it up, but it can only do so much, and the engine stalls. It will
start right back up. There is no other indication of any suspect parts or
bad things going on.

Hello, Cant seem to get a good idle when cold, and after a few minutes of
running. When first started, the engine idles just fine. After a few minutes
, when I drive, I begin to get problems till warmed up. Particulairly, the
idle drops to about 300rpm and may stall at a stop sign.Other times, it
drops and recovers. the idle is 925 rpm when first started and when warm.O2
sensor? Vaccum leak? Ever seen this? thanks Roger
