Good timing on this subject.  I just had a long discussion with a US Customs
officer on this subject this morning.  The Web Page pointed to a the
previous post is absolutely consistent with what I was told but with more
specific info.  BTW, Customs is aware that VW has been refusing to provide
letters to owners telling what is in compliance with US regs and what
isn't.  And they are not the only ones, similar problems with BMW and
Mercedes.  Ford is charging $350 for such a letter and it's only available
through a Ford dealer.
