If you're a MS Excel geek like me, you can figure it out with some measuring and some calculations.

The backspacing of your 16" x 8" - ET34 wheel is 5-5/16" or 136mm. ((Wheel width / 2) + offset) The backspacing of a stock steel wheel (14" x 5.5" - ET38) is 4-1/4" or 108mm The backspacing of a stock alloy wheel (14" x 6" - ET30) is 4-3/16" or 106mm

Increasing the diameter of the wheel by 2" (from 14" to 16" provides 1" or 25mm of clearance from the spindle according to some measurements that I posted in March of 2005: http://gerry.vanagon.com/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind0503A&L=vanagon&P=R16475

To get 8mm of clearance (same amount as the stock steel wheel has) you would need an 11mm spacer (((136mm + 8mm) - 25mm) - 108mm).

Good luck,

Tim

I just came across eight Mercedes 16 inch wheels with offset ET34, marked 8J*16H2.

Does anyone know for sure whether these will bolt on to a 1991 MV? I assume it will need new lugs, but would spacers be required? Has anyone used these wheels? If so, what is good tire for them? Thanks,

Jeff
