There are some errors in what Eric's list gives but since he prolly had a Subaru conversion some of it is explained.

The green you are finding may come from the oil pressure switch, though the wiring diagram shows blue/black all the way it could be in error. What color do you see at the switch? You can easily trace the engine compartment wiring to the dash 14 pin connector with an ohm meter to verify that a wire in the rear connects to something up there.

In any case, with only one green wire at the coil, you don't have complete factory tach wiring. The dash IC wiring with the green is a sub harness. The IC green and a few others go to a 4 pin connector up front. VW could have used the sub harness for a tach model but matched it to a main harness without a tach wire. I'd like to think that all 85 main harnesses were the same but who knows.
