Most of the replacement pipes have the flare. The catalyst will accept the same donut gasket that is used at the other end of the J-pipe. If not, Bosal 256-049 will seal the connection. This is a donut that seals on the flat face on the cat side.

I just had a complete (except muffler and converter) installed on my '87 bus. My question is that the pipe that goes to the converter is flayed where is connects to the next pipe and the one that was on the van was not, it was round with no flair. Is this a new version of this pipe? My mechanic installed it but said that I may end up having to get the round part of the old pipe cut and then welded on to the new pipe is it develops an exhaust leak. can someone tell me if they have run into this ad what did they do? Use the pipe as it was (flayed) or have it cut and the old round piece welded and used it this way.

Thank you for any help on this.

It seems fine so far. No leaks that I can tell as of yet.

Chris S
