ok...searched the archives and didnt come up with anything specific on this..

when you install a late model vanagon tach/digital clock cluster into a '84 down vanagon that didnt originally have one, you have to do some wire pin position swapping in the 14pt multi pin terminal plug, and run a wire from the coil to position #9 in the plug to power the tach..

but in '85, the plug ALREADY HAS the pins in the correct spaces weather the van or transporter has the tach cluster OR the analog clock cluster. in other words, in '85, the green tach wire is already in position #9 no matter what model it is.

ok..so that being said, when i put a tach cluster into a '85 vanagon or transporter that didnt originally have one, then the tach should work, correct?

well it doesnt. and, no there is nothing wrong with the cluster. the green tach wire is already in the wiring harness, and but its not powering the tach.

the vehicle in question is my 85 doublecab.. i was wondering if anyone else with a 85 transporter, or an '85 NON-GL Vanagon had the same problem when they added a tach cluster?

im thinking , this wire is already in the wiring harness, but i dont see it dangling anywhere back in the engine compartment next to the coil or anything..

any ideas??

thanks

chris
