RE: Filling Propane Tanks Mark makes a good point (max fill, 80%, should be around 2.4 gal) but it just dawned on me that I don't know how the the fill system on the Westy tank is supposed to work. I know for certain, on a well handled fill, I had one fill that went 3.3 gallons. I may have been ripped off some, but I was watching and that fill was done by the book. IIRC that was on my '85 AFTER the regulator had been replaced by a local RV shop. I've seen many references to the 'auto stop' valve, but I'm not sure how it works. I've assumed that it is a float type valve inside the tank, shuts off the intake flow at 80% full. And the bleeder valve is there to allow room for the liquid propane going in. On my '90, I can't recall any fill over about 2.5 gallons now that I think about it, but several at that level when things were still running fine, seemed to have plenty of propane. |
