I ended screwing two small sheet metal screws into the seal. This is a
little foggy, but I believe that I was then able to use a standard gear
puller by attaching it to the screws and then driving the seal out. This
worked great, you just have to be very careful with the metal shavings that
are produced when tapping holes for the screws. At the time I did not own a
lever type seal puller, but now that I do I bet it would work fine as well.
The question is, do you stop at the seals, or pull out the ring and replace
the rubber O-rings as well?!
Good luck,
Jake

Get a lever type seal puller such as the KD 3245. It will do the job.

Dennis's suggestion was PERFECT. Inexpensive, easy, & it came with 8mm
bolts so it bolted right in! Thanks!
Now... how the hell does that drive seal come out?! By looking at the
depth of the replacement seal, it's nearly 1/2 in, ridged. I can't even
get a small screwdriver under the outer edge of the one I'm trying to
take out. I've tapped, as Daryl suggested, but there's no indication a
screwdriver is going between the seal & adjusting ring. Should I try a
torch, knowing it'll melt the rubber, or keep trying with a
punch/screwdriver? What about pliers if I can avoid the splined shaft?
Of course I'm afraid I'll damage the adjusting ring if I get too
creative.
I really appreciate everyone's help since there's no way I'd have
tackled this myself. You are all invaluable.

Dennis Haynes reply on the list also is a good idea...a cheap genaric
puller as long as it will be wide enough to do the job..Daryl

Use a screwdriver to tap under an outside edge of the old seal and
GENTLY pry it out of the big screw flange thingy adjusting ring..tap the
