We used to sell a product at our vw parts store years and years ago
called vinyl spray. we did many vw bug interiors with it.
You can spray the vinyl headliner and certainly vinyl seats etc with it.
Its different than spray paint but still changes the texture of vinyl a bit.
We used black mostly and you really need to get the vinyl really really
clean to
keep the stuff from "fish eye" on you. (where the paint pulls a way from a
spot from grease etc)
The vanagon interior is made of a polyester type of material.
I have tried Rit fabric dyes on it and it is like Teflon it will not absorb
anything.
At least this was the curtains and the rear cushions.
Most polyester fabric will not take dye very well cuz its PLASTIC.
I think vinyl dye on the upholstery will possibly ruin it by making the
fabric stiff like paint would.
You can buy very good true wood veneers and ultra thin plywood with real oak
etc finishes.
I think MDF is GARBAGE and will never ever put even a scrap of it in my
westy unless I have
a wood stove in there.

Subject: Changing the interior color by painting, possible? Anyone done it?
So here a question for all the do it yourselfers,
Can you spray a specific paint on the headlining, vinyl on the walls,
plastic on the walls, or material on the seats including the cloth to change
the color scheme?
Was thinking of changing the color of the headliner, walls and center a/c
shaft to White.
Possibly painting the vinyl and plastic panels on the inner walls to white.
(did some research, herešs what I found)

Then after walls were painted white, I was thinking of using a wood veneer
and adhering it to the flat section of the wall paneling.
I also plan on replacing the sliding door panels and back hatch cardboard
with real wood. I was thinking I could trace the existing material onto MDF,
use it as a template and then use the MDF to route the exact shape onto the
wood sheets.
Lastly can you actually spray a color onto the grey cloth seats to change
the color? I have seen products advertised that claim to work, just
wondering if anyone has done this?
I know this sounds sort of radical but I was thinking of making the interior
a little less drab and little more stylish.
Open to ideas.
