Sigh... I went out to the garage today to awaken my Vanagon from its long winter's nap and discovered a puddle about 1 1/2 feet in front of the rear axle. Anyone hazard to guess what this is? It doesn't smell like gas (my first thought after all the recent burning vanagon messages). It isn't coolant (I had my share of coolant leaks a few years ago and know what it looks like). It damn well better not be an engine oil leak since I just put a factory rebuilt long block in 8k and 18 months ago (besides it's too far forward I think). It shouldn't be brake fluid since I just replaced the master cylinder last year (but then again, I don't know what brake fluid looks like). A leak in the automatic transmission perhaps? I have no idea what transmission fluid looks like. I haven't attempted to start it, and I'm trying to decide whether to have it towed to my mechanic or try driving it and see how far I get. Rich |
