I did this on my 76 baywindow a while back, with one hasp and lock per side. It didn't work on the first attempt and I did need to go back and look for other available hasps that would actually fit properly.

so, sorry I dont have a picture and it wasnt on a vanagon, but it will work - you may just need different hardware.
