Actually, that crease in top of the tank is a left over feature from the
air cooled days. It was there for the heater duct.

helping me keep them in the proper order) and by the time I got to fill
up I
am sure it was damn close to 16 gallons. Since I have an AT with worse
mileage, shouldnt I be entitiled to a gas tank w/o the shifter linkage
crease in the top?  Im sure thats a gallon or 2 lost volume right there.
How
does the synchro tank fit 18 gallons? Does this have something to do
with
the right rear fill port I have seen? I would really prefer not to give
up
the spare for the 6 gallon SS donut tank up front.
