Well... I asked Hooper (remember Hoop?) a few years back for some chronology and he sent the following:

IIRC, I joined the list in Jan. '96 and looking at the archives, my first post is 9 Mar 96. By Sept '97 we'd added the WetWesties list to the evil spawn of the Vanagon list. Our first home was actually ON the vanagon listserv through the good graces of Coyote and (IRCC) David Smith at UCSD.

And... I believe that Gerry might still be with us. I think I saw a post from him not too long ago.
