that is one seriously modded vanagon.

i didnt run the vin, but that is indeed a '85 vanagon. it started out life as a white 85 GL hardtop passenger van w/ a blue velour interior. prolly had the a/c and auto trans as the only options. (notice the white fresh air cieling vents - 85 was the last year for white ones, 86 up are black) and you can see it has the newer sliding door. also the sideglass is regular GL sideglass, not camper windows.

how do i know it was white? look at the paintjob.. notice how its red in all the doorjambs, even the upper sliding door track, even under the dash...red pretty much everywhere. but look at the front seat tracks... see that little sliver of white? if it was truly a red van , it would show red there. its been repainted, a very good job though..

then the mods began. -ASI Poptop added (this may have been done right when it was imported new, as '85 was one of the last years ASI was doing conversions in WA state) -power mirrors were added -power windows were added (notice the manual crank hole plugs on the doorpanels) -Pzwo fogs added -square headlights and grille added -2.0L inline engine added -rare blue rear sofabed out of a '87 westy weekender added (just the bed, not the wallpanels) -rear shoulderbelts added -euro taillight filler trim added -fiberglass bumpers and body kit added -front interior doorhandle pulls/armrest from a Cabriolet??? added (id like to know how they can close the door with both the armrests on the seat AND the doorpanel) -plus cruise and power locks added..

someone obviously put a LOT of time into this rig...

chris
