I know this topic of "what do you keep in your van" has been covered before but its still an interesting and obviously updateable thread. Here's a list I have been working on especially now a days where you may get caught in your car someplace (or worse earthquake etc) have to leave your car and walk.

BASIC TOOLS: Hammer or a nice hatchet slice a piece of rubber hose to cover the edge. A good razor knife with extra blades inside metal file hack saw blade with one of those plastic holder handles Phillips screwdriver Standard screwdriver 8,10,13,15,17,19 mm wrenches Breaker bar with extension and socket for wheel lugs Factory VW Jack Block of wood 2x6 to increase foot area of jack Small Crescent wrench Center punch Pliers with side cutters Leather gloves LED double AA flashlight or headband light

CONVENIENCES: Plastic knife, fork, spoon, cup Paper napkins Packaged wet wipes Small plastic bags Swiss Army Knife with bottle cap, cork, and can opener

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: Hat - light colored and water repellant Nap sack Walking shoes, extra pair socks Sunglasses, (prescription / reading glasses) Sunscreen Bug repellant Monocular or tiny pair of binoculars Bottle of drinking water Water filtration straw or equal Small first aid kit with snake bite. Space Blanket emergency plastic poncho or trash bag Matches, fire starting device Small can of sterno or tea light candles vacuum sealed jerky Back packing coil up ring saw or equal Compass State Map / Area Map Newspaper Extra batteries for flash light 5x jeweler's eye loop for slivers starting a fire etc Stainless precision tweezers Tiny signal emergency signal mirror Nitril gloves Pepper Spray Knife

Hello to all,

I have had my 2nd Vanagon (silver 88 Wolfsburg) since January and was thinking I should start assembling a list of tools I should have to handle basic maintenance and road emergencies, so what are your suggestions?

Please Note* : I do not plan on doing any complex engine repairs, I will leave that to the prošs.

Thanks in advance,

-- Rob NYC/Long Beach, NY 88 Wolfsburg, Silver
