The original Westfalia sofabad was nothing more than upholstered wood and foam (it did not use the same back seat as a non-camper). What gave it its unique functionality was the hinges/hardware that allowed the seat to fold up and out, creating a bed. (The Europeans call this design a "rock and roll bed," which refers to the way the bed folds up and out, not the bed's musical taste.) The sofabed kit we sell is basically the same "rock and roll" assembly (hinges, brackets, etc.) without the sofabed itself. You have to make your own sofabed using wood, foam, and fabric, much as Westfalia did. A set of rudimentary instructions show what you need to make and how to attach the hinge/hardware assembly and brackets to the bed and the van. So it's pretty much the same as buying an original Westfalia "rock and roll" assembly at a junkyard, except that it's new and includes basic instructions.
