The Suburban I had in my 68 loaf was 30,000 BTU. Came out of a motor
home that burned. That sucker would put out the heat. Never had a
problem with ice and snow when it was running. It was my bus de-icing
equipment. Turn that hummer on 30 minutes before time to go where ever,
and the vehicle would be completely de-iced and de-snowed by the time
you were ready to roll. The loaf was just a working vehicle for me so I
never spent nights out in it. I didn't have it set up to run on storage
batteries. When the engine ran, it could run. This was the same unit
however, that I have in my class A Champion. The 30,000 btu Suburban in
it would heat the whole motor home. And it operated on a bank of 4 deep
cycle marine batteries. Those batteries never went flat. I would run the
engine every day to keep them charged. I had an Onan generator that
would charge the batteries but the Onan was a bear to get to run, and I
just didn't fool with it. Easier to run the engine in the motor home.
----- Or tap into 110 somewhere.
One thing about the big heater. It didn't have to cycle very often.
BTW, It was mounted on the floor behind the driver seat.
