Subject: Placing $$ hourly value on one's own time in doing van work....

Hello from Atlanta, GA. I worked on my old '72 Bay window from '73 till I sold it in '85. I did all maintenance myself except engine removal and replacement. How did I value my time? I would not value it at $80. per hour as some would.... That is like valuing the time you spend with family, working in your own yard, tinkering on projects as $80. per hour. That is hubris!

If you enjoy doing it yourself, then do so. If you want to get out a check book, then do that. But pooh to those folks who feel time has a dollar value for everything. I wonder if those good folks who place an $80. per hour figure for everything they do live in a big city, have not a bit of trouble justifying having a yard service do all their outside work, hiring other services to clean their gutters and decks, planting ornamental cabbages, pansies and other short seasonal show plants in their yard....... 'Cause these good folks are worth $80. per hour. Wonder what their neighbors value their time at? $79, $85 per hour? Some of the 30's something trophy wives in our neighborhood spend $180. for a haircut.

Regards,

Mike Nichols Atlanta GA 2--'81 Vanagons
