Hmm, there have been, what? 7 or 8 different inline 4's that VW has made. And that's just the gas powered ones. And that's just VW of Europe, and what they market in the USA.

The Tiico is from VW of South Africa. While there are common parts, there are also a few unique things. Certainly a (US) Jetta engine could be used to REPLACE the tiico, with essentially only replacing the oil pan, but there are definite differences.

I think someone once observed it was 1.8 heads on a 2.0 block, or maybe the other way around.
