Subject: Re: rear drum leaking 85gl

Rear brakes are fun. If you do it wrong, the e-brake will not hold proper.Your shoe are toast if fluid got on them. Any clicking sound when you appy the brakes can be due to deep grooves worn into the backing plate ($79 at BD,I think). Both cylinders should be replaced every shoe change for insurance. They are only $10.Add a bit of grease to the rear bearing by smearing grease on the bearing surface and squeeaing it into the bearing by use of the hub as a press. Only do this a couple of times as excess grease will expand and blow a seal(new shoes once again). To remove the big nut, I files a match mark on the hub and nut and hammered it back on till the marks matched.Brake drums from any year vanagn will fit .Wots of wuck
