Good question. The 12 volt option is only useful during extended drives where you can use it for the day. If you were to pay for electricity when plugged in, the propane is cheaper there too. In reality, the fridge will run down that battery in 3-4 hours.

My aux battery plan calls for a Surepower 1315 combiner and 60+ amp hour battery with an inverter and all house lights and stereo wired to the aux battery. In 10 years, I've never used the fridge on 12V and am wondering if I should even bother hooking it back up. I can't think of any circumstances where I would not be running on propane. I'm also planning on plumbing a 1LB bottle fitting into my propane system so I have back up if my Westy tank runs out. Since the fridge would run the aux battery down in 6 hours or less, why do I want 12V at all?
