Andy, Upper ball joint was easy to replace on my 87. They are not expensive if you get them from BD. I would suggest starting there and see if the noise goes away. I took a closer look under the van tonight and had some friends bounce it u= p and down. Its clearly the upper ball joint. I'm going to look around tonigh= t to see if this is something I want to tackle myself. Otherwise, it'll be to the shop tomorrow morning.
