I had a similar problem when I installed KYB GR- 2 in the front. After a short time, a knocking noise started. I replace every bushing in the front end, and it was still there. Then someone here told me about the cheap KYB front upper shock bushings, which are too thin and soft. I swapped back to the old oem ones, which I'd kept, and it been quiet ever since (5+ years). Easy to replace without removing the shock.
