I have a 97 2.5 Tdi in my Syncro. With the South African 5 cyl bellhousing and engine crossmember http://www.southafrica-parts.de/na/ it fits--with some trimming. The accouterments have been challenging, and I'm still working on the rest of the drivetrain.
