Tom,
Having had both vans I purchased shipped to me by an auto shipper the first
thing I would recommend is look locally for a shipper in the area where the
van is going, then if you do not find anyone try where finding a shipper
where the van currently is.
Then call around and also get some quotes online, their are a lot online
transport websites if you do a search for auto transport. These websites
will generate quotes from about 10 different sources.
Be sure they are all insured first and foremost.
Some of these companies have corporate accounts and do shipping for
automobile dealers up and down the east coast, always seems like a good idea
to ask if they have any corporate clients that use their services and call
them and get some feedback if possible.
Both times I did this I had searched the net first. First time, I found a
company provider via a website site quote, hired a local in Florida, they
picked up the van in in Gainesville and drove it to Long Beach NY. The
company gave me updates along the way where the driver and was.
The second time, I found some broker on the net who was brokering the pickup
of van. This is they way they all work I found out. They list your vehicle,
location for pickup and delivery then truckers log on, and based on the
price offered they pickup the vehicle. All are insured.
My newest van acquisition was done by calling the local area where the van
was because most of the drivers did not go to Upstate NY so I had to forget
the broker route, most drivers stay on the east coast borders. I found
someone locally who did transportation of most of Mercedes dealerships in
update and Connecticut and they did the job, it even cost me less than best
broker price I found! Worked out great.
Hopefully some of this helped out.
Regards,
