Hello again. I used an underhood sound and heat insulating pad from a ,low
mileage,junked Buick($5). This pad was in good condition and very clean. I
folded it in half and wedged it in. I only needed to cut in 1 or 2 places ,
around the lock/wiper area ,to get a good fit.I used the enire pad.It fit
perfect, and filled the entire void.

The hatch now slams with authority. Sounds like the other doors , which
have expensive sound proofing material inside. This pad allows for water
drainage too. I understand that the weight from regular sound proofing
material, can make the rear hatch sag. This hatch has a feeling
of "fullness",somehow,now. It seems like the hatch is filled with
something, and is not hollow. A good feeling it is.

I would use this material again.It seems that it is well suited for the
rear hatch.Ithas been a over a year since I have done this and have
experienced no problems. I like it very much ,infact, of all the materials
and proceedures I used to sound insulate my westy, I like this one the
best. Nice,new, low pressure car tires may knock this insulation from first
place for sound a westy. Cant wait to find out.
