Depends how much. Most combustion pressure keeps the water from going into the cylinder via bad head gasket under load. This is not always true but usually you get oil in water from head gasket issues, if at all. Most likely a cracked head or block if the water is in the oil. Especially if he neglected the antifreeze concentration this winter.

Drove an old Toyota for a year like that (no money and didn't care) back in the day until the water destroyed the main bearings. I had to change the oil (with water) every month!

Hi to those mechanically inclined,

My brother has a 1986 Ford Bronco II (V-6) with a quarter million miles on it. He reports to me that he has some water in the oil (nope - don't know how much). He asked me if I thought this could be a head gasket. My first thought is that it could, but after cogitating for a bit, I'm thinking that there isn't a water/oil interface at the head. Am I correct in this? What other possibilities are there. It still runs strong - no noticeable performance issues.

I realize the Bronco II has a poor reputation, but he's had pretty good luck with his, and would like to keep it rolling.

Thanks in advance,

Karl Wolz
